This is Ms. Lehmann’s twenty-seventh year in the Saint Paul Public Schools and her fifth year as the Principal at John A. Johnson Elementary School where she is honored to serve as an administrator. Melissa graduated from college with a degree in Elementary Education, received a Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and earned her Administrative Licensure from Saint Mary’s University. She has taught grades K-6 and is a trained Reading Recovery teacher; an accomplishment that she is very proud of. In addition to her teaching experience at the elementary level, Ms. Lehmann has also taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in the area of literacy. She continues to take education classes and is a voracious reader on anything that is related to the field. When not at John A. Johnson, Ms. Lehmann enjoys being in the presence of her family and friends. She likes to read, bake, swim, golf, play tennis, bike, rollerblade, ski, ice skate (Melissa hung up her hockey skates for figure skates and continues to practice her spins), and make cards, announcements, & invitations for parties and special events. Ms. Lehmann has always lived in the Twin Cities. Although she loves Saint Paul, she is beginning to ponder phase II of her life in a much warmer climate. Melissa and her husband are very busy with their children, their education, and extra-curricular & community activities. She believes that the John A. Johnson community is extremely fortunate to have such strong partnerships with multiple organizations. Developing students who become life long learners is a high priority for Melissa. On a professional level, she is guided by a quote made famous by Robert M. Hutchins, “The objective of education is to prepare individuals to educate themselves throughout their lives.”
